Artist Biography

Lauren Lathrop is a mixed media artist living in Salem, Oregon. She is currently attending Willamette University and is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Arts. Her recent work relates to fiber arts and the study of human anatomy. She is from Reno, Nevada and is planning on settling in the Pacific Northwest after finishing her undergraduate.

Artist Statement

 I am primarily interested in issues of personal identity and their implications on the human experience. In my work I explore my own identity and self-perceptions as well as my assumptions about how other people determine their sense of self. The human form, in realistic and abstracted representations, often appears in my art.
I consider myself an artist in progress. As my education and exposure in the worlds of art and academia continue, my artistic process evolves and changes. I work in various media, and I am particularly drawn to media that incorporate sculptural elements.
